CTE Academies and Pathways

Academy Programs

Academies and career pathways offer Laguna Creek High School students the ability to specialize in a number of career fields in a smaller learning environment. Students in career academies are assigned to a team of teachers and participate in integrated academic and career/technical courses. Each academy has a career focus that includes an introductory and an intermediate career technical education course enabling students to earn a certificate recognized by businesses and industry.  Each career academy is a four-year program with an integrated course of study that is structured yet flexible allowing students with the option to participate in the IB Programme.  Participation in an academy exposes students to the world of work through the coordinated efforts of LCHS staff and employers/career experts which provides opportunities for mentoring, job shadowing, and internships.

  • Green Energy Technology Academy (GETA)

Students in GETA study the technology of renewable energy, explore green energy careers, listen to speakers related to the current topic of study, participate in field trips, and develop the skills and character needed to work effectively in today’s job market.  Freshmen students will be introduced to the science of energy and a small scale exploration of the material presented in their sophomore and junior GETA years.  The sophomore year explores solar and wind energy.  Juniors study biofuels and electric vehicle conversions, and GETA seniors, depending on their post graduate plans, may work as interns with our partnering companies, conducting independent research with sponsoring organizations, and/or becoming certified in one of the many green energy certification programs available to them through local companies, junior colleges, and four-year institutions.

  • Manufacturing Production Technology Academy (MPTA)

Students in MPTA will participate in a technology advanced and specialized performance-based curriculum that combines the latest in manufacturing technology with direct, ongoing contact with industry and post- secondary institutions to create a unique experience for all students interested in manufacturing, engineering, and the Sacramento Regional High Tech Consortium-related occupations.  Academy students will actively solve manufacturing/engineering problems and will develop product prototypes using advanced equipment articulated with industry and post-secondary institutions. The MPTA provides a school wide entrepreneur focus with three main pathways: Design and Engineering, Business and Marketing, or Production and Manufacturing.

  • Sports Careers Academy (SCA)

Students in SCA will study a variety of health and/or sports related careers and will have the option to focus on one of three pathways/strands: 1) Sports Medicine and Athletic Training; 2) Wellness, Personal Fitness, and Strength Training; and 3) Sports Media, Marketing, and Management. Students in the SCA academy work closely with a variety of business community partners to support LCHS and community teams which reinforces the skills students are developing in the academy. Character education and team building strategies are used throughout the SCA to help develop life skills and leadership skills.
